Accused previously received Rs 10000 bribe
Chandigarh January 21, 2025 –
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended Kuldeep Singh, Junior Engineer (J.E), posted at Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) office, Cheema Chowk in Ludhiana red handed while accepting second instalment of bribe amounting to Rs. 5000.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused have been arrested based on a complaint lodged by Jaswinder Pal Singh, a resident of Ram Nagar, Shingar Road in Ludhiana city.
He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the accused JE has demanded a bribe of Rs 36000 for installing a new electricity meter at his tea stall and the deal was struck at Rs 15000. The complaint further informed that the said JE had already taken Rs 10000 bribe as a first instalment but even then meter has not been installed and demanding the remaining bribe money of Rs 5000.
The spokesperson added that after a preliminary enquiry on his complaint a VB team from Ludhiana unit laid a trap during which the accused J.E. has been arrested red handed from his office while he was accepting Rs 5000 as a second instalment of bribe money from the complaint in presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Ludhiana range. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into this case was under progress, he said.
