Thanks Prime Minister and Finance Minister for Prioritizing Chandigarh in the Budget
Chandigarh, 01 February:
Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Shri Gulab Chand Kataria today thanked the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman for the provisions made in the Union Budget 2025-26 to benefit the poor, farmers, and the middle class.
In his message, he stated, “In my 40 years of public life, this is the first time I have witnessed such significant support for the middle class through tax exemptions and other incentives. This is highly commendable and a welcome step. This budget marks an important milestone in the empowerment of all sections of society.”
As the Administrator of Chandigarh, Shri Kataria also expressed gratitude for the budgetary provisions made for the city’s development. He emphasized that the Central Government’s commitment to modernizing Chandigarh’s infrastructure and prioritizing its overall growth will greatly benefit its residents.
For the Union Territory of Chandigarh, the Budget Estimates for 2025-26 have been presented at Rs.6,983.18 crore, comprising Rs.6,185.18 crore for Revenue and Rs.798.00 crore for Capital expenditure. This marks an increase of Rs 469.56 crore (7.21%) compared to the Budget Estimates for 2024-25, which stood at Rs.6,513.62 crore (Revenue: Rs.5,858.62 crore, Capital: Rs.655.00 crore).
The major allocations include Rs.1,206.36 crore for Education, Rs.987.37 crore for Health, Rs.984.85 crore for Energy, Rs.958.79 crore for Police, Rs.884.31 crore for Housing and Urban Development, Rs.445.84 crore for Transport, and Rs.1,515.66 crore for all other sectors.
