After the 30 Punjabis among the 104 unauthorised Indian immigrants were deported by the Trump administration in the US, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Punjab Assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, strongly advocated that the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government must prepare a rehabilitation programme for the Punjabi deportees.
“They are our sons and daughters, and we must accept them. Without an appropriate rehabilitation programme, they may plunge into despair and depression or rather resort to drug addiction and criminal activities. The AAP government must not let them go astray. It should extend a helping hand. Employment as per their qualification and financial assistance should be given to them,” Bajwa added.
Senior Congress Leader Bajwa said that there are examples where many of the Punjabi youngsters, who chose the donkey routes to illegally migrate to the countries like US had sold their farming land to pay exorbitant fees to the illegal travel agents. They will be left with nothing when they come back. The government must also take strict legal action against illegal travel agents.
“It was AAP’s one of the main election planks to stop the brain drain by motivating youngsters to explore careers in the home state. Now, even after three years to power, the AAP failed awfully to produce any positive outcome as it had no roadmap to the same. Even this promise of AAP had proven to be hollow,” Bajwa stated.
Qadian legislator Bajwa said that one of the major reasons that youngsters from Punjab have been opting to migrate to Western countries is widespread unemployment in the state. The AAP remained futile in addressing the issue of unemployment and instead, it squandered Punjab’s exchequer on the baseless advertisements.
